Contribution to the syntaxonomic knowledge of Quercus suber woodlands of Latium

This study is a contribution to the knowledge and syntaxonomic definition of Q. suber forests of the Latium region, which represent the last traces Of a forestal belt that at one time was certainly much more developed. In ten sites representative of the Q. suber vegetation, 33 relev& were taken using the Braun-Blanquet phytosociological method (1952). The matrix of 90 species x 33 retev& was placed un- der multivariate analysis (Wildi and Orloci, 1987). From the overall elaboration of the data, a structured table was obtained which allowed for an ecological and phytosociol0gical interpretation of the results. The Q suber woodlands of Latium were attributed to the new association Cytiso-Quercetum suberis, concentrat- ed in the subhumid belt and diffused on markedly acid soils.
